2017-2018 General Catalog

Message from the President

Welcome to the U. Whether you are just browsing the options available at this university, or you are already registered and are planning your academic path, you will find the University of Utah is a place where possibilities meet opportunities, leading to positive, life-expanding transformations.

The University of Utah is a tier-one teaching and research institution. Here, students are surrounded by world-renowned educators with a passion for providing exceptional learning experiences that will engage and prepare them for success in the future.

This catalog is representative of the more than 100 undergraduate, and 90 graduate programs offered. There is a wide array to choose from, but it is just one resource offered to assist in the creation of your path to graduation.

We are deeply invested in your success and the quality of your experience at the U. Newly implemented scholarship programs, expanded academic advisory services, learning communities, counseling, and a caring faculty and staff are available as you design your own “Plan to Finish.”  Take advantage of these resources.

It is my hope your map to the future will also include experiences that are deeply engaging outside the classroom. There are literally hundreds to choose from: Whether it’s joining a club or organization, learning abroad, dancing on one of our many stages, standing shoulder to shoulder with researchers and entrepreneurs finding new knowledge, studying at one of our field stations, or serving within the community, I encourage you to pursue what inspires you.

Again, welcome, and have a great school year.

David W. Pershing

President
