The UNEP minor in Nuclear Engineering requires 16 course credit hours. The Minor contains 4 core courses, a total of 10 credit hours, and 2 additional elective courses, a total of 6 credit hours, either from a list of UNEP courses or major courses approved by the UNEP Director. Check with your department to see if any of the core courses may be counted toward your technical electives.
Students in any discipline may enter the minor if they have met the following prerequistes:
C- or better in PHYS 2220
C- or better in CHEM 1220 or CHEM 1221
C- or better in MATH 1220 or MATH 1320 or MATH 1321
Students must complete 16 credit hours of coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students must also maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.85 or higher to remain in good standing in the minor.
Minor Requirements for Nuclear Engineering
To fulfill the requirements of the minor, students must complete 16 credit hours of coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The 6 credits of nuclear-related technical electives may include NUCL 5000- and 6000-level courses or nuclear-related courses from a student’s home department.
Students have the option of using approved technical electives that count towards the degree programs in their home department towards the 6 credits of required nuclear-related technical electives, making it possible to complete the nuclear engineering minor with only 10 additional credits beyond an engineering, math, or science-related undergraduate degree.
An undergraduate student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and instructor permission to enroll in a NUCL 6000-level course.
