The Kinesiology Teaching, formerly known as Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program, at the University of Utah is committed to the development of quality physical education teachers through the integration of theory and practice in a wide range of experiences and settings. Through intensive academic coursework and field experience combined with continuous student reflection, the goal of the program is to provide individuals who believe ALL students deserve the opportunity to learn and can learn, who act on the principle that diversity is to be valued, and who are committed to providing quality physical education instruction. The curriculum is designed to help students meet the state requirements for teacher certification. Upon completion of the curriculum, students will be qualified to apply to a state certification program.

Admission Requirements

Students must have a 2.7 GPA in order to apply to the teaching program. This is a closed program. Students must apply and be admitted into the program before they can officially declare this major. For more information, click here.

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA
