Students seeking an HBA in English Teaching must complete:

Critical Introduction to Literary Forms


Introduction to Literary History


Complete 2 courses

Introduction to Critical Theory


Shakespeare


Adolescent Literature


One additional 5000-level course


Choose one additional 5000-level English course or ENGL 4999: Honors Thesis

Methods of Teaching Language Arts


Complete 2 courses

Content Literacy


Students should also take ED PS 5126 - Content Area Literacy Instruction  for Utah state licensure.

Recommended Minor


It is highly recommended for students in the Teacher Certification Program to complete a minor from among those approved by the Utah State Board of Education.

Secondary Licensure


Students interested in obtaining a Secondary Education Teaching License must contact the secondary education advisor at 581-6818 for information on licensure coursework. A Secondary Education DARS report should also be generated based on the year the student was admitted to the University of Utah.
