Minimum Degree Hours: 122
Minimum Major Hours: 79-81
Auditions are required for this major. Students must be admitted to the University of Utah before they can be formally accepted into the major.
Entering first-year students must complete at least 79 credits of DANC courses at the University of Utah. Transfer students, if entering the BFA Program as a sophomore, must complete at least 63 credits of DANC courses at the University of Utah. All majors courses must be completed with a “C-” or better. Technique placement for Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years is determined by the Department of Modern Dance faculty. Students must advance to at least DANC 3310 and DANC 3320, Level III Modern Dance Technique, in order to graduate.
Honors in Modern Dance
Students seeking an HBFA in Modern Dance must complete:
Freshman Year Required Courses
Sophomore Year Required Courses
Junior Year Required Courses
Senior Year Required Courses
In addition, all Modern Dance BFA students must complete 1 performance credit in DANC 4388, which may be completed at any time during a student’s time in the BFA program.
Major Requirements for Modern Dance Teaching
Secondary Education Teaching License (Grades 6-12)
The pathway to obtaining a state teaching license is offered through the College of Education and requires additional coursework. Students interested in completing a Secondary Education Teaching License or a Secondary Teaching License with a K-6 extension must contact a secondary education advisor in the Urban Institute for Teacher Education: Sorenson Arts & Education Comples (SAEC) 2260, 801-581-7158, Secondary Teaching License website.
Secondary licensure requires up to 45 credits of additional hours of coursework outside of your fine arts degree. For licensure courses vist this link. A Secondary Education Degree Audit Report should aslo be generated based on the year the student was admitted to the University of Utah.
