Major Requirements for Physics


Physics & Astronomy

Minimum Degree Hours: 122
Minimum Major Hours: 68

Graduation Requirements:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in major courses.
  • All major courses must be completed with a C- or better.

Mathematics Courses


Ordinary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra


Complete one of the following sections.

Complex Variables


Complete one of the following courses.

Medical Math


Students planning on attending medical school should take this course in lieu of the Partial Differential Equations and Complex Variables courses.

Core Requirements


All physics students must complete the following requirements.

Introductory Physics Courses


Complete one of the following sections.

Recommended


This class fulfills the Bachelor’s Degree Upper Division Writing requirement.

Physics Tracks


Complete one of the following tracks.

Bio-medical Physics


Students interested in bio-medical research should talk to an advisor regarding modifications of the following program.

Honors Required Courses


Students who complete the Honors Degree requirements AND maintain a 3.5 gpa will recieve the Honors Degree (H.B.S or H.B.A.) designation on their diploma.

Electives


Complete 3 additional honors (HONOR or HON attribute) courses.

Thesis


Complete 1 Honors Thesis course (DEPT 4999) in your major department.

Final thesis must be approved by Honors Advisor.

Additional Honors Physics Requirements


Students wishing to complete an Honors B.S. in Physics have several additional departmental requirements. A checklist of these requirements is contained in the honors degree form, which must be filled out and signed by the honors advisor at the beginning of the final semester before graduation.

  • All Physics and Astronomy courses must be completed with a B or better.
  • A GPA of 3.5 must be maintained for all Physics and Astronomy courses.
  • Complete at least 20 hours of approved Honors courses.
