Description

This course is an introduction to the field of business economics. Topics include value creation and value capture, demand curves, supply curves, optimization, equilibrium, monopoly, oligopoly, price discrimination, and elasticity. Business applications include setting optimal prices, understanding competition, choices over differentiated products, entering new markets, scale economies and diseconomies. Course sessions will consist of a mix of lecture and discussion. Readings will rely heavily on current news articles to illuminate the direct applicability of economics to the current business world.
