THEA1713 - Script Analysis (3 cr)
Description
What makes a compelling story, a memorable performance, a good play? This introductory script reading course guides students through several approaches to reading dramatic texts as blueprints for performance rather than simply as literary documents. Along the way, students develop a working knowledge of the vocabulary, concepts, and cultural context required to make sense of a script's action, characters, ideas, language, and spectacle. This provides students with a deeper appreciation of the playwright's craft, an understanding of the gap between the written and performed text, and preparation for further exploration of the theatrical arts and the dramatic form.
