Program Description

The Construction Engineering program equips students with the technical expertise, management skills, and real-world problem-solving abilities required to excel in the construction industry. This interdisciplinary program blends principles of civil engineering, construction management, and sustainable practices, preparing graduates to oversee complex infrastructure projects from conception to completion.

Students gain a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, and engineering science while exploring topics such as structural design, construction methods, project planning, and cost estimation. Practical experience is emphasized through laboratory work and a capstone project that simulates real-world challenges. Graduates of the program are equipped to pursue licensure as professional engineers (PEs).

Program Admissions Requirements

Major Status: Students who indicate Construction Engineering as their major during the admissions process are automatically granted major status. Students currently declared in a different major who wish to switch to Construction Engineering must have a cumulative University of Utah GPA of 2.50 or higher and schedule a meeting with an advisor to initiate the change.

Upper-Division Transfer Credit: A maximum of 3 upper-division courses (and their accompanying labs) may be transferred into the program (9-11 credits max). No primary or design electives will be accepted.
