Program Description

Students may complete a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Communication within one of four sequences: Strategic Communication (public relations, advertising, integrated marketing); Journalism (online, broadcast, print); Communication Studies; or Science, Health, Environmental, and Risk Communication.

Multimedia laboratories are provided for study of reporting, editing, graphics, photography, radio and television production, and new media, including webcasting and podcasting. The facilities of the student-produced Newsbreak program, K-UTE radio, The Daily Utah Chronicle, and Venceremos are used for student professional experience. Students may also seek off-campus internships. Students needing assistance in selecting an area of specialization should contact the department.

Program Admissions Requirements

  • A minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA in at least nine credit hours of study at the UofU.

  • One UofU COMM course with a C or better.

Transfer Students

Transfer students interested in a Communication major should contact the department. Certain courses may articulate between a previous school and the department. Transfer students may apply up to four articulated or equivalent courses from other institutions toward the major. Students with transfer Communication courses should meet with an advisor to discuss how their courses may be applied in the major.
