Program Description
The Art Minor at the University of Utah offers students from all disciplines the opportunity to engage with visual art as a form of creative inquiry, critical thinking, and cultural expression. Designed to complement a wide range of majors, the minor introduces students to foundational studio practices while encouraging interdisciplinary exploration and personal voice.
Rooted in hands-on studio experience and supported by exposure to art history and contemporary discourse, the program empowers students to explore diverse media—including painting and drawing, illustration, sculpture/intermedia, ceramics, printmaking, photography and digital imaging, book arts, digital media, and art education. Students are encouraged to work across disciplines, experiment with materials and ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of visual culture.
The Art Minor emphasizes conceptual development, technical skill, and creative problem-solving, equipping students with tools that are valuable in any field. Whether pursuing careers in design, education, business, science, or technology, students gain the confidence to think visually, communicate effectively, and engage with the world through art.
