The CAHME-accredited Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree at the David Eccles School of Business prepares students for success in administrative positions in both the private and public sectors of the healthcare industry, including healthcare delivery, public health, and health policy.
The MHA program's mission is to build foundations for healthcare leadership by providing students with the leadership skills and technical tools to improve the human condition across a broad spectrum of healthcare institutions. The program competencies include leadership and ethics, communication, relationship management, analytical and critical thinking skills, and business knowledge skills, all necessary for increasingly responsible leadership roles in healthcare.
Traditional MHA (MHA)
The MHA program prepares early-careerists for administrative positions in both the public and private sectors of the healthcare industry. Students in the MHA program can expect challenging coursework designed to advance their skills in business disciplines with a focus on the healthcare industry. The program of study includes healthcare specific courses and an administrative internship. Students exit the program prepared to accept leadership roles in healthcare administration. The MHA program can be completed in two years when attending full-time and in three years with a part-time schedule.

Professional MHA (PMHA)
The Professional MHA program prepares mid-careerists for administrative positions in both the public and private sectors of the healthcare industry. Students enter the program with prior healthcare experience and can keep their full-time jobs while attending school. PMHA graduates will have the academic credentials to move into leadership positions in a variety of settings, including healthcare delivery, public health, healthcare policy and health services research. The PMHA program can be completed in two years when attending full-time and in three years with a part-time schedule.

MHA Online (MHAO)
The MHA Online program prepares mid-careerists for administrative positions in both the public and private sectors of the healthcare industry. Students enter the program with prior healthcare and management experience and can keep their full-time jobs while attending school. MHAO graduates will have the academic credentials to move into leadership positions in a variety of settings, including healthcare delivery, public health, healthcare policy, and health services research. The MHAO program is an entirely online full-time lock-step program that is completed in two years.

Program Admissions Requirements
Students applying for the MHA as a single degree must submit an application to DESB Admissions for fall semester. Students applying to one of the MHA dual degree programs must complete two applications, one for the MHA and one for the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), or Master of Public Health (MPH). Students already admitted to one of the joint programs may apply to the MHA in Fall and Spring terms.

At the David Eccles School of Business, while we don't require any specific educational background for prospective MHA students, we do look for accomplished individuals with a demonstrated commitment to healthcare through volunteer or work experience in a healthcare setting, plus intellectual curiosity and potential for leadership.
