College of Social Work Bachelor of Social Work

Program Contact Information

Program Description

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) prepares students for entry-level generalist practice in a variety of human service agencies and organizations. Students acquire the knowledge, skills and professional values required for practice with individuals, families, small groups, organizations and communities. Graduates are prepared to work with people experiencing many personal and social problems and to work for social justice. All students will complete a supervised internship, called a practicum, in an approved field placement site as part of their academic requirements. The University of Utah College of Social Work offers both campus and online learning options for BSW students. The College of Social Work also offers a three-semester Advanced Standing MSW Program. To be eligible for the program, applicants must have completed a Bachelor of Social Work degree. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA for all program required courses.

Program Admissions Requirements

The BSW program has established a set of minimum criteria that students must meet in order to apply for program admission. Meeting these minimums does not guarantee admission, however, as we may have more applicants than available spaces. Students seeking admission to the BSW program should visit the BSW website for up-to-date information regarding pre-major course requirements and other materials that must be submitted with the program application.
