Description

This Core course introduces students to the basic Principles and Elements of Design and Composition using a variety of techniques that are related to printmaking. Techniques covered will include Collage and Frottage, Collagraph, and Engraving prints. The focus of the course will be to explore foundational 2D techniques through mark-making, value, line, texture, balance and scale, unity and variety, and composition. We will explore the concept of Evidence. Art is evidence of the artists’ ideas as well as the processes used to create it. We will cover collection of evidence and manifesting that collection into your own ideas. Printmaking is a varied and all-inclusive medium. Students are introduced to a range of possibilities and directions and are encouraged to think of the medium as an ever-expanding mechanism for translating ideas and forging connections with other disciplines.
