Describe the basic composition of the Earth’s surface in terms of rocks and tectonic plates.

Explain how sedimentary rocks form, and how they can be used to determine characteristics of past environments.

Describe and identify key life forms that occupied the planet through the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic.

Explain how life interacts with the Earth system during past mass extinctions and in the modern world.
