Experiences in Personalized Medicine I

Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine MD - S. F. E. School of Medicine

Description

The semester-long Experiences in Personalized Medicine I course provides experiences that demonstrate how concepts that students are learning in their didactic Personalized Medicine courses are put into practice and impact patient care. These experiences include shadowing a genetic counselor in one of several clinics within the University of Utah Health Care System; touring ARUP Laboratories, the University’s national reference lab and a leader in developing genomics-based clinical diagnostic tests; and participating in an academic scientific symposium with a focus on personalized medicine. These experiences will be designed as half or full day exercises, with preparatory and reflective work, for each cohort of participating students. Students who wish to pursue Personalized Medicine in greater depth are encouraged to continue in this four-year certificate program, including completion of a capstone experience.
