Motivational Interviewing
Description
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is both a theory and a set of practices designed to encourage behavior change in clients. MI provides a framework for understanding factors related to an individual’s degree of readiness to change. MI supplies techniques designed to promote and maintain a commitment to change. Additionally, MI provides a philosophy about the role social workers play in assisting individuals to change and honors client self-determination while applying research-supported strategies.
