MSE2010 - Intro To MSE (4 cr)
Materials Science and EngineeringEN - J & M Price College of Eng.
Students will be able to select materials for different applications based on thermal, transport, mechanical, electronic, and corrosion material property constraints.
Students will become familiar with fundamental aspects of crystal and microstructure
Students will experimentally characterize the structure and properties of broad material classes including metals, ceramics, polymers, and glasses
Students will learn how phase transformation kinetics change for different geometries and cooling rates.
Students will learn how structure and property influence material properties in broad classes of materials including metals, ceramics, polymers, and glasses
Students will learn to use phase diagrams in the design of materials and applications
Students will synthesize and process broad material classes including metals, ceramics, polymers, and glasses.
Students will understand how defects and imperfections influence material properties
