Social/Behavioral Science Exploration (BF) - GE Course-Level Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the General Education Social and Behavorial Sciences requirement, students will be able to:
Examine: Examine institutions and human behavior through social and behavioral concepts, methods, or theories;
Analyze: Identify diverse perspectives to explore and examine social and behavioral phenomena; and
Apply: Apply discipline-relevant and scientific theories and methods to make inferences about or applications to social and behavioral phenomena at personal, institutional, or cultural levels.
Collaborate to produce a coherent analysis of linguistic data.
Communicate original analyses of linguistic data in a field-appropriate medium (research paper, oral presentation, or poster) using commonly accepted formal frameworks (understood broadly).
Demonstrate command over formal frameworks (understood broadly)
Demonstrate command over research techniques in linguistics:i.e., students should be able to answer research questions via syntactic, semantic, or phonological analysis; by designing and executing a simple experiment; or by active participation in other kinds of research used by linguists.
Identify the import of one's own analyses for our understanding of language, people, or society as a whole.
Participate in a meaningful learning experience that prepares the student to meet his/her goals after earning a linguistics degree.
