Undergraduate Program
Many professional careers require leaders skilled in the management of individuals and groups, and all organizations need managers and leaders who understand organizational culture, can adapt to or inspire change, can identify and implement effective strategies, and are capable of coordinating and facilitating the efforts of others to accomplish organizational goals. The undergraduate management degree in the David Eccles School of Business is designed to provide management majors with a deeper understanding of leadership and a broad conceptual foundation to recognize the challenges managers and leaders face in the 21st century.
Coursework in the undergraduate management major provides students with:
Knowledge, abilities, and essential skills to assume managerial and leadership roles in a variety of organizations, and industries
Comprehension of how organizations work, and how human interaction and workplace behavior affect an organization
Understanding of how to conceptualize, plan, organize, and facilitate the performance of people within organizations
Awareness of underlying behavioral theories that afford insight related to the organization, its leaders, participants, and overall effectiveness
Utilize cutting edge, best practices that influence behavior in an organizational settings
Development of advanced communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
Practice leadership skills necessary to effectively collaborate with individuals and teams who represent diverse backgrounds.
Management Minor
21st century organizations are seeking individuals with technical and quantitative skills, but also someone who can effectively work with people and lead successful teams. This Minor provides students with the well-rounded tools to organize, motivate, and construct a productive work force. Through topics such as conflict resolution, team building, motivation, organizational behavior, diversity, and emotional intelligence aid in building a successful managerial career.
Students from all disciplines who will be working with people would benefit from this Minor. Business majors and non-Business Majors alike would find these competencies useful in their every-day work life. This minor pairs well with technically oriented degrees to form a skill base on which to build a solid career.
Scholarships
The majority of scholarships across campus are awarded by academic year rather than by individual semesters. Those applications will become available in the fall for incoming freshmen and transfer students, and in the spring for current students.
