It's one thing to create complex information systems and processes. It's another thing to know how to manage them in a way that makes a business more efficient, effective, and competitive. Employees with these skills are considered invaluable assets to any company. That's why the demand for employees trained in Information Systems (IS) and Operations & Supply Chain (OSC) is skyrocketing and why positions in these fields are some of America's best-paying jobs.

Information Systems
Whether in health care, manufacturing, or retail, almost every aspect of any business relies on information systems. IS students will learn how to effectively manage the technical direction of business, solve technological issues, and implement new technological advances and strategies into day-to-day operations so that the business can achieve a competitive advantage in the market.

Operations & Supply Chain
Top successful companies rely on operations and supply chain experts to manage their intricate systems and processes to produce high quality products and services. These professionals are crucial for driving efficiency and profitability within an organization. OSC students will develop the skills needed to manage these systems effectively by exploring topics such as supply chain management, project management, visual analytics, quality management, Six Sigma strategies, inventory control, planning, scheduling, forecasting, and simulation.

If you're someone who likes to analyze and solve problems with cutting-edge technology, we invite you to explore the programs in this department.

Undergraduate Programs

Operations & Supply Chain (OSC) involves working within an organization to oversee the quality and speed of business processes. OSC students at the University of Utah's David Eccles School of Business study a firm's profitability, and how to improve process flows, enhance output quality and manage the supply chain. OSC students typically pursue careers in service and manufacturing firms to manage the transformation of inputs into outputs. The operations function also plays a role in developing new products and in product pricing. The OSC program trains students on how to think analytically and logically, giving them the ability to pursue any number of business careers.

As technology constantly evolves as an essential component of business, professionals in Information Systems keep industry moving. Information Systems aims to create efficient management of information within organizations in order to establish processes that are most beneficial to the users who interface with that group. Students in the Information Systems program will learn the tools to manage the technical direction of business, solve technological issues, and implement new technological advances to enrich business operations.

Graduate Programs

Designed to provide the kind of advanced IT education necessary to manage the technology of business, the MSIS program offers business education with a practical slant. Incredibly relevant coursework and extensive opportunities for hands-on experience prepare our graduates for high-paying leadership positions in one of the fastest-growing job sectors in the world. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts a whopping 30% growth for employment in the IS/IT industry from 2008 to 2018.

The David Eccles School of Business Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program is designed to provide advanced IT training for individuals seeking the skills necessary to manage the technology of business.

Companies in the private and public sectors need information systems (IS) executives, analysts, and specialists with business and technology knowledge to align information technology with business strategies. Our information systems curriculum is designed to offer courses that integrate technology into business processes.

The MSIS program provides students with advanced graduate specializations in some of today’s most in-demand IT fields, including IT security, software and systems architecture, product and process management, as well as business intelligence, artificial intelligence, and analytics. Each concentration equips University of Utah students with a distinct competitive advantage, preparing them for leadership roles in major corporations.

What's more, the MSIS program is a time of powerful networking for most students, who benefit from our close-knit alumni community and established relationships with local and national companies. Perhaps equally important are the relationships formed with peers-experienced professors and accomplished classmates that last a lifetime.

Whether you're interested in a full-time or part-time format, you'll complete the MSIS program with the network, knowledge, and capabilities needed for visionary technology leadership.
