Program Description

The level of education required for success in the accounting profession has increased significantly. Graduate education not only facilitates entry into the profession but also enhances career progress and job mobility. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, Utah Association of CPAs, and many other professional organizations strongly endorse graduate accounting education. The School of Accounting at the David Eccles School of Business offers the Master of Accounting (MAcc) degree to develop highly qualified professionals for leadership positions in the accounting profession and to encourage education for judgement beyond a technical accounting degree.

Our MAcc program provides students with in-depth accounting knowledge, a reputation for sound judgment and the relevant, transferable skills they need to succeed in today's multidisciplinary world. The MAcc prepares students for careers in public and/or corporate accounting, tax auditing and advising, non-profit, government accounting, and financial reporting.

Our flexible hybrid schedule allows you to complete the program in as little as one year or over multiple semesters while working full-time. At every pace, the MAcc builds upon a solid foundation of accounting principles learned during a bachelor of accounting program.

Throughout the program, the School of Business places a strong emphasis on analytical thinking, communication skills and professionalism. Our nationally-ranked faculty-including two former academic fellows at the SEC-combines pioneering research and dynamic instruction to engage students in helping to shape the future of accounting. By learning the language of business, our students graduate with a versatile skill set that translates into high quality job placement with opportunity for advancement. In fact, over the past decade an average of 95-98% of our MAcc students have secured employment within three months of graduation.
