Program Description
Public Health Dentistry is designed for students who are considering dental education as a full-time career or as an adjunct to clinical practice. The Pathways in Public Health Dentistry Course is intended to introduce the student to the transitional concept Clinical Prevention and Population Health as it relates to the community as a whole rather than individual patient care. Understanding community oral health needs and operations is key to this dental specialty. This course will provide understanding of Clinical Prevention and Population Health, Oral Health Epidemiology, and Dental Public Health Policy and Advocacy. Additionally, students will receive increased awareness and understanding of Statistical Methods for Oral Health Research, Oral Health Program Planning and Evaluation, and Applied Research Methods in Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Research Methods. At completion of the pathway course, students will have developed and implemented an Applied Policy in Oral Health and created a presentation with a portfolio of Community Dentistry Project Work.
