Program Graduation Requirements
Doctoral students accepted into the Bioscience PhD Programs take the standard core curriculum and the Capstone Exam of the Programs (http://www.bioscience.utah.edu) in Year 1. First year courses for students accepted via direct admission into Neurobiology will be determined by the student's supervisory committee on an individual basis, but must include MBIOL 7570 - Case Studies and Research Ethics.
All doctoral students must subsequently take a minimum of 2 additional didactic courses (1 1/2 semesters, 4.5 credit hours), a graduate level course in statistics, and pass a Qualifying Exam. Students must also complete a Teaching Assistantship (1 semester) and participate in the department's Research in Progress (RIP) seminar series (ANAT 7720) every semester. The PhD Degree is awarded when the student completes and submits a written dissertation defended through an oral exam and the document is approved and released by the Graduate School.
