The minimum GPA requirement for admission is a 3.0. Prospective graduate students must apply for admission through the University of Utah Graduate Admissions Office.

Application for Admission includes:

• Submission of undergraduate transcripts. Please upload official transcripts to the online application.

• GRE scores: Send your GRE scores to the institution code 4853.

• Statement of purpose cover letter (i.e., why you want to be an audiologist; 1 - 2 pages)

• Sample of scholarly writing (2 - 10 pages). Clinical reports will not be accepted. Collaborative works are not permitted.

• Three letters of recommendation.

Our AuD degree is approved for the Western Regional Graduate Program. If you reside in a selected state determined by the WRGP program, you may be eligible to apply for in-state tuition. For more information see the WRGP website.

If English is not the applicant's native language, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Spoken English (TSE) will also be required.

We will weigh the entire application to determine the ability of the student to complete the program successfully.

Prerequisite Information for Graduate Students. An undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences is not a prerequisite for admission into our graduate program. Those who apply to our graduate program from other fields are required to complete a series of prerequisite undergraduate classes before full admittance to the graduate program. The CSD prerequisite requirements are mandated by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The prerequisites and example courses from the undergraduate curriculum are listed below. While it is intended that the majority of these prerequisites courses be completed prior to application to the graduate program, students may complete up to three courses as deficiency requirements after acceptance into the graduate program.

I. 15 credit hours of “Normal Communication:”

CSD 3100 - Phonetics, CSD 3120 - Anatomy of Speech and Hearing, CSD 4400 - Language Science, CSD 5380 - Speech and Language Development, CSD 4200 - Hearing Science (for AuD students) or CSD 4300 - Speech Science (for Speech-Language Pathology students)

II. Courses in hearing disorders and rehabilitation:

CSD 4500 - Introduction to Audiology CSD 5520 - Aural Habilitation and Rehabilitation

III. Twelve allied course credits: Allied courses must include three credits in each of the following four areas:

• Statistics (e.g., upper division level of statistics, for example; FCS 3210, PSY 3000, SOC 3112, Statistics for the behavioral sciences, etc.)

• Physical Science ( Physics or Chemistry)

• Biological Science (Biology or Nutrition)

• Social and Behavioral Science (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, etc.)
