Program Description
The Biology Major consists of the following components:
The science core is made up of two semesters each of chemistry, physics and math courses.
The biology core is made up of a total of eight biology courses at the 1000-, 2000- and 3000-levels, including two 1000-level lab courses. These courses cover the major areas of modern biology, including cell and molecular biology, genetics, organismal biology, ecology, evolution and environmental biology, ensuring that all Biology Majors receive a broad foundation in the life sciences.
Elective courses: for the general Biology Major (without an emphasis) at least one elective must be chosen from each of three broad areas: cell and molecular biology; organismal biology; and evolution, ecology and environmental biology. For each of the emphases, three or four electives are chosen from a list of electives for that emphasis, and one lab course is chosen from a list for the emphasis.
Laboratory courses. In addition to the two 1000-level lab courses (BIOL 1615 and 1625), two additional lab courses are required.
