Program Description

The primary objective of the Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering at the University of Utah is to provide engineers with the knowledge and skills to design and manage complex mechanical and organizational systems. The current program provides participants with an understanding of the fundamentals of systems engineering and the ability to develop, analyze, and model systems of all kinds. Participants learn to develop both general system performance requirements and quantitative system metrics for the management and evaluation of systems.

The course work is made up of 6 hours of core courses, 3 hours of planning or production systems courses, and 6 hours of electives in topics closely related to systems engineering. The 2 core courses provide engineers with a basic understanding of systems engineering and the ability to develop, analyze, and model systems of all kinds. The planning or production systems assures that each student has in depth knowledge in some critical systems engineering topic. The electives allow students to choose related courses of interest from a variety of departments across the University.

Program Admissions Requirements

The Systems Engineering Graduate Certificate program is open to all matriculated College of Engineering graduate students or any matriculated or non-matriculated student who has a bachelor's degree from a recognized engineering program or an allied science. Students should fill out a program declaration form on the Mechanical Engineering website.
