Program Description

Civil Engineers are responsible for designing, constructing, and managing the infrastructure that supports modern society. This program provides comprehensive training in core areas such as structural design, environmental engineering, water resources, transportation systems, construction materials, and geotechnical engineering. Through a balanced blend of theory and hands-on practice, students learn to create sustainable and innovative solutions for essential projects, including roads, bridges, buildings, and water treatment facilities. Graduates are equipped to tackle the engineering challenges of the future, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable built environment.

Program Admissions Requirements

Major Status: Students who indicate Civil Engineering as their major during the admissions process are automatically granted major status. Students currently declared in a different major who wish to switch to Civil Engineering must have a cumulative University of Utah GPA of 2.50 or higher and schedule a meeting with an advisor to initiate the change.

Upper-Division Transfer Credit: A maximum of 3 upper-division courses (and their accompanying labs) may be transferred into the program (9-11 credits max). No complex engineering electives will be accepted.
