Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy degree is awarded for high achievement in an advanced specialized field of study. It requires competence in independent research and an understanding of related subjects. The degree is not awarded simply for the fulfillment of requirements. Doctoral students must submit a dissertation embodying the results of scientific or scholarly research.

Doctoral students in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering concentrate their studies in a specified field of study. They shall work under the supervision of a professor within the department and are expected to support, facilitate or lead novel research within the discipline.

Program Admissions Requirements

All application materials must be submitted through the FutureU application system.  

  • Unofficial Transcripts are required from all higher education institutions attended.

  • Three References. Provide the contact information for three (3) individuals who can provide information about you as a student and/ or a working professional.

  • Resume or CV 

  • Personal Statement 

  • Some applicants are required to submit proof of English Language Proficiency. Details regarding this requirement and exemptions are outlined in detail here.  

Optional: Graduate Entrance Exam (GRE): GRE scores are optional. If provided, the examination date must be within five (5) years of the application submission date.
