6 total experiential learning credits can be used towards the elective requirement. Experiential learning course are FCS 4890 and FCS 5950.

The goal of this requirement is to foster a broader educational base, consistent with the general aims of a liberal arts degree. Admission Requirements

Application timeline:

We recommend that students who begin the combined program as first year students formally apply during their second year of course work. Students who begin the program later in their college career should meet with an academic advisor to determine the best time to apply for the licensure component. Applications are due no later than February 1 of the year that the applicant plans to complete their licensure year ( ex. due February 1, 2027 for students planning on the 2027-2028 licensure year.)

 Application requirements for K‐3 Licensure cohort:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Application

  • Personal Statement

  • Transcripts, University of Utah, transfer and any concurrent enrollment

  • Three letters of recommendation, Academic, Professional and Teaching/Working with the Youth.

  • Background check

Teaching licenses are granted by the Utah State Board of Education. The College of Education recommends candidates for a Professional License grades K-3, upon successful completion of the program and exit exams.
