Program Admissions Requirements

Applicants will complete the required documentation and verifications online and each application will be reviewed by the MHM Admission Committee:

Bachelor Degree: MHM applicants must have completed the equivalent of a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. International applicants holding a three-year bachelor's degree should contact the International Admissions Office to determine if additional coursework will be needed before applying to a graduate program.

Minimum GPA: Applicants must have earned their bachelor degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or its international equivalent. Consideration will be made for applicants meeting this 3.0 GPA over the last 60 hours taken in their undergraduate course work. In consideration of the 3.0 GPA requirement, all GPA calculations will be rounded to the nearest tenth. For international applicants who attended an institution that did not use a 4.0 GPA scale, transcripts will be evaluated by the University of Utah International Admissions officers. The GPA will be converted to a 4.0-scale equivalent after the application is submitted. A third-party transcript evaluation is not required.

Pre-requisite Courses: MHM applicants must have successfully completed the following courses with a “B” grade or higher from an approved accredited institution prior to matriculating:

  • An accounting or finance course

  • A statistics course

  • Courses that are discipline-specific, or specific to a major will be accepted. *How the course was delivered (online, in-person, etc.) will not be a factor considered in the admissions process.

Language Skills: (If not waived by the Graduate School): International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency and the ability to contribute to classroom discussions and interact in a team environment. International and permanent resident applicants who do not hold a bachelor's or graduate degree from a U.S. or English-speaking institution in accepted countries (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or the United Kingdom) are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

The MHM program minimum score requirements are: TOEFL: 100, IELTS: 7.0

Applicants who score below the minimums are strongly encouraged to retake the exam before submitting an application. Please note the Eccles School has different minimum score requirements than the University. Healthcare Work Experience: Students applying to the MHM program must have a minimum of three years of full-time, post-undergraduate work experience in healthcare prior to the start of their degree. Students who are currently employed in healthcare have the opportunity to maintain full-time employment while pursuing the MHM program.
