The basic requirements of the program include completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours, including 16 hours of core courses, 6-10 hours of Thesis Research and 6-9 hours of approved electives. Following the first year of course work, the student must successfully pass a comprehensive examination that is administered by the advisory committee. The student must complete a laboratory research project that is reported in thesis format and defend before the supervisory committee.
