Students should demonstrate a broad understanding of the primary disciplines associated with Microbiology and Immunology, including cell biology, immunology, genetics, and microbial pathogenesis.
Students should be able to critically evaluate contemporary research literature and research programs.
Students should be able to design, conduct, and defend novel biomedical research with a high degree of independence.
Students should be able to develop and defend, in writing and orally, an original research proposal in the broad area of experimental pathology.
Students should be prepared to teach at the college level, pursue further research training at the postdoctoral level, and/or work in industry.
