Program Graduation Requirements

The Middle East Studies BA will required a total of 52 credit hours. 22 lower-division credit hours will be composed of the Language Proficiency Core (16 credits) and part of the International and Area Studies Required Core (6 credits). 30 credit hours will be composed of upper division courses.

HIST3910 Topics must be "Environmental History of the Middle East" or "History of Israel/Palestine"

HIST4200 Topics must be "The Mongols" or "History of Afghanistan"

HIST4490 Topics must be "Gender and Middle East History" or "Jews of the Islamic World" or "America and the Middle East"

MID E3880 Topics must be "Islamic Fundamentalism" or "The Jewish Experience" or "Religion & Fashion of the Middle East" or "Modern Lebanon & Syria"

MID E4549 Topics must be "Major Issues in Middle Eastern History" or "Islamic Fundamentalism"

MID E4880 Topics must be "History of Afghanistan" or "God, Love, and Mysticism" or "Science in the Mid East & Central Asia" or "Environmental Issues in Africa & Asia"

Fulfill ANY of the following requirements:

Earn at least 3 credits

The Signature Experience credit hour requirement can be fulfilled by a relevant internship, study abroad, CEL course, research course, Honors thesis, or through Model Arab League. Must be approved by an IAS advisor.
