Program Description
The Nurse-Midwifery Post-Graduate Certificate Program prepares advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to provide holistic, evidence-based care to individuals across the reproductive lifespan, with a focus on pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, and gynecologic health. The program emphasizes physiologic birth, shared decision-making, and respectful, person-centered care in diverse clinical settings including birth centers, hospitals, and community clinics.
Grounded in a foundation of graduate nursing education, the curriculum integrates midwifery philosophy with advanced clinical training, public health principles, and interprofessional collaboration. Graduates are eligible to sit for national certification as a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM).
Eligibility:
Applicants must hold a graduate degree in nursing (MSN or DNP) and current national certification and licensure as an APRN (NP, CNS, CRNA, or CNM). This program is ideal for APRNs in other specialties who wish to transition to or expand their practice to include nurse-midwifery and reproductive health care.
Program Admissions Requirements
Applications are due in January. To be eligible for the graduate certificate, students must have earned a graduate degree from a nationally accredited program and/or are in process of completing a graduate degree. Submit a completed Nurse Midwifery Certificate Admissions form (available at http://nursing.utah.edu). Submit an official copy of all transcripts. The Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Admissions Committee reviews applications and admits participants for the Fall semester.
