Program Admissions Requirements
Admission to the MS program is limited and selective. Admission cannot be guaranteed to all individuals who meet the minimum requirements.
The College of Nursing strongly recommends that applicants first attend a College of Nursing Graduate Information Session before submitting their application.
Other Important Information related to the MS Program:
This program is designed specifically for individuals who have earned a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Consistent with University policy, students entering the MS must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Students will follow the regular University of Utah Graduate School application processes and deadlines.
Upper Division Physiology Prerequisite Required for Nursing Education
An upper division (3000 or higher) physiology course, completed with a B grade or better, taken within the last 5 years is required prior to starting the Nursing Education specialty tracks. The Nursing Informatics specialty track does not require this prerequisite.
Note: The College of Nursing offers an upper division level course, NURS 5905 Clinical Physiology (2 credits) to help applicants meet this requirement.
Application: Deadline: December 1
Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed. Applications are available fall of the previous year.
Scholarship Applications for New Applicants are Due January 15.
The College of Nursing offers many funding opportunities for Nursing and Gerontology graduate students. There is a separate application for scholarships. You must submit a scholarship application by the deadline in order to be considered for funding.
To apply for scholarships and other funding opportunities such as TA and RA positions, visit the College of Nursing Graduate Scholarships webpage.
International Applicants
International applicants are not eligible to register for non-matriculated status at the University of Utah. Therefore, if recommended for acceptance to the program, international applicants would need to apply for second-bachelor degree status through the University of Utah International Admissions Office and meet the International Undergraduate Admission Requirements.
In addition to the requirements listed above, international applicants must provide evidence of certification by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.
