Program Graduation Requirements

The MS degree has a coursework option, a project option and a thesis option (all are a minimum of 30 credits).

Coursework option graduation requirements:

  • Complete a minimum of 28 regular course credit hours with a grade of B- or better in each course.

  • Achieve a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 in Program of Study.

  • Complete a minimum of 1-2 Seminar credit hours (two semesters of a .5 or 1 credit graduate research seminar)

  • Successfully complete the final examination requirement: pass an oral exam administered by the M.S. supervisory committee or the written portion of the Ph.D. qualifying examination.

Project option graduation requirements:

  • Complete a minimum of 22 regular course credit hours with a grade of B- or better in each course.

  • Achieve a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 in Program of Study.

  • Complete 1-2 Seminar credit hours (two semesters of a .5 or 1 credit graduate research seminar)

  • Complete 3-6 project credit hours, or equivalent combination of independent project, internship, or project-intensive coursework

  • To reach 30 credit hours, students may complete an additional project, seminar, or course credit, if necessary.

  • Successfully complete an approved public presentation of project.

Thesis option graduation requirements:

  • Complete a minimum of 22 regular course credit hours with a grade of B- or better in each course.

  • Achieve a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 in Program of Study.

  • Complete 1-2 Seminar credit hours

  • Complete a minimum of 6 thesis credit hours.

  • Successfully defend the master’s thesis before the supervisory committee.
