Students must complete all core classes with a “B” or better grade. Grades in elective classes must be a “C” or better. Students must maintain an overall 3.0 GPA in graduate course work to maintain standing in the Graduate School with no individual grade lower than a “C.”
Areas of concentration including criminal justice, education, health administration, local government administration, natural resource administration, nonprofit organizations, policy analysis, public human resource management, and an open-ended option (you may develop an area not named above by combining courses from several areas or by forming a different area from various relevant courses taught at the University).
Please Note: Courses in the areas of concentration may be drawn from various departments and colleges. Please send a copy of the syllabus to the program manager for approval. The program manager will determine if the course fits under one of the concentrations and has a tie to public administration.
Students without at least one year of appropriate public/nonprofit administrative experience must successfully complete a semester-long, full-time equivalent, paid internship for which they enroll for an additional 3 credit hours. The MPA Director and MPA Program Manager will determine if the student has proper experience. Work experience in the private sector will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Students will write a 2-3 page paper asking to waive the internship requirement. This paper must be received before the student begins the program.
The above courses should be the last core courses taken. Registration for the Capstone course requires students to submit their Intent to Graduate form; students must also have taken at least seven core courses.
