Philosophy

Students will gain a foundational understanding of philosophical topics, views, and methods in each of four major areas of philosophical study: (Area I) ethics and values; (Area II) metaphysics and epistemology; (Area III) history of philosophy; (Area IV) logic and formal methods.

Students will develop skills in clarity of academic writing and argumentation through the practice of essays, class debates, and/or oral presentations.

Students will acquire a foundational competence in rigor of argumentation through study of formal languages, proof techniques, and/or quantitative reasoning.
