Program Graduation Requirements
Only 3 courses (9 credits) can be transferred in and 2 courses (6 credits) can be lower-division.
Must complete all courses with a C or better.
Certificate Type
Embedded certificates are conferred concurrently with a degree.
Stand Alone certificates are conferred to a student who is not seeking a degree.
The purpose of this requirement is to provide students with an opportunity for integrative work. This can be through an intensive research experience, Honors thesis, and/or capstone course with a significant PI-focused paper or project. Suggest students take this course at the end of their certificate experience. Talk to the Transform advisor about other course options and approval process.
Can count up to two SAMOA courses towards the Electives. Courses from the Intermediate section can be taken for elective credit but only if they are not used to fulfill the Intermediate requirement.
Allied Electives are courses taught by specific instructors and must be approved to count as an elective course. An Allied Elective course will include at least one week of Pacific Islands-focused content and a significant Pacific Islands Studies paper or project. Some Allied Electives are already approved, for example, specific sections of BUS 3800 - Business Scholars and ENGL 3870 - South Sea Tales. If interested in taking or appealing a course for an Allied Elective, students must submit (1) a paper or project proposal to the Pacific Islands Studies director for approval, and (2) submit the final paper/project at the conclusion of the semester. See the Transform academic advisor for course options and learn about the approval process.
