Political Science

Be knowledgeable about general concepts, theories, and methods used in the discipline of political science;

Have a broad and detailed knowledge of the research literature, theories, and methods within at least two of the major subfields of political science (American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and public administration);

Be able to evaluate and synthesize research literature on a significant research topic within selected areas of expertise;

Complete original research on a selected topic that contributes to knowledge within the discipline of political science and be able to conduct future research on topics in the field;

Have sufficient ability with a foreign language and/or research methods to apply those skills in the research process;

Be prepared to hold a faculty position in higher education or a research related position in the public, private, or nonprofit sectors.
