The Robotics minor will allow students to enhance their qualified undergraduate degrees with an additional credential that will appear of their transcript and that they can list on their resume. The interdisciplinary undergraduate Robotics minor will provide knowledge for integrating hardware and software with algorithms to create the next generation of intelligent machines. Robotics researchers are employed in a wide range of occupations that are creating the next generation of technological devices. Roboticists create assistive robots (prosthetics, wearable robots), autonomous vehicles (cars, mining equipment, underwater, and aerial), automated warehouses, manufacturing systems, medical devices, and consumer products (vacuums, 3D printers, craft machines). Interdisciplinary skills, namely hardware (electrical, mechanical, and computational), programming, and algorithms, are important for a wide range of products that a company may wish to develop. There are many unfilled well-paying jobs in Utah that could be satisfied by students with robotics credentials.

The minor is customized towards undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering, School of Computing, or Electrical and Computer Engineering, but students from other majors can also apply. Current undergraduate students will need to fill out a Robotics minor application on the Robotics program webpage (https://robotics.coe.utah.edu) and declare the minor with the Robotics Advisor. Students should have a declared major and full major status in that major. Students will need to have completed PHYS 2210, linear algebra (MATH 2250 or MATH 2270), and differential equations (MATH 2250 or 2280) as prerequisites for many robotics courses. A minimum of C grade in these classes is required for admissions.
