Speak, write, and understand, both orally and in print, the Russian language in ordinary living situations as well as in a limited scope of professional and business matters. Students' speaking, reading, writing and listening proficiency in these areas should approximate be at least an Intermediate-Mid on the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency scale.

Demonstrate at least a moderate interdisciplinary understanding of Russophone cultures. Identify and demonstrate at least a moderate knowledge of the main periods, figures, works, and trends in Russophone cultural and intellectual history in literature and film.

Demonstrate understanding of linguistic structure of Contemporary Standard Russian.

Develop and demonstrate written and oral communication and presentational skills that evidence critical thinking, thoughtful analysis, and coherent argumentation in English and at least at Intermediate-Mid level in Russian.

Develop skills necessary for lifelong learning.
