Program Description

The TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate prepares students to teach English to learners in the United States or abroad. The TESOL Certificate is a basic level program. This certificate may be in conjunction with another degree program or as a stand-alone program. It also may be taken as part of an undergraduate degree in Linguistics.

Program Admissions Requirements

  • After being admitted to the University of Utah, students must fill out an TESOL application form with the TESOL Certificate advisor.

  • Non-native English speakers must have a minimum TOEFL score of 80 iBT or better, or a minimum IELTS band score of 6.5 or better. A minimum score of 76 on the Michigan Test will also be accepted.
