Program Description

Pursue your passion for dramatic expression and creative exploration with the Theatre BFA. The program offers three emphasis areas--Actor Training (ATP), Musical Theatre (MTP), and Stage Management--with admission by audition or application only.

All students in the BFA take core courses in theatre fundamentals, including script analysis, history, acting, design, and technical theatre. The program curriculum is then tailored to each emphasis area. Acting and Musical Theatre students receive training in various acting, voice, and movement topics, while Stage Management students go on to take classes in production, stage directing, and stagecraft.

Theatre BFA admissions requirements and plans of study can be found at theatre.utah.edu.

Aspiring theatre teachers should consider applying to our BFA in Theatre Teaching, which prepares students for licensure in K-12 schools.

Students interested in playwriting, design, performance, directing, or dramaturgy are encouraged to enroll in our liberal arts degree in Theatre, where they can earn either a BA or a BS.

Emphasis Options:

  • Actor Training

  • Musical Theatre

  • Stage Management
