Histories, Geographies, and Theories: Students will identify, understand, and engage rhetorical theories across time and place, including: Greco-Roman-Western rhetorical traditions and practices Other global rhetorical traditions and practices Disciplinary concepts in writing and rhetoric studies Insights from other disciplines that shed light on rhetorical phenomena

Everyday Writing and Rhetorical Practices: Students will identify, understand, and engage the social contexts for rhetorical and literate activity, including: Cultural, political, economic, and/or religious contexts Rhetorical and literate activity as discursive, material, emplaced, and embodied Interrelations with constructions of class, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, and/or (dis)ability How rhetorical and literate activity can perpetuate, exacerbate, resist, and/or challenge social inequalities

Rhetorical Competencies: Students will engage in a wide range of rhetorical practices that require complex capacities, including: Alphanumeric literacies across multiple academic and non-academic genres Multimodal and/or digital literacies Situated rhetorical processes Metacognitive strategies for adapting rhetorical knowledge across contexts Awareness of and appreciation for linguistic and rhetorical diversity

Rhetorical Action: Students will use their rhetorical competencies to take action in a variety of contexts, including: Community involvement (on, across, and/or off campus) Democratic and/or civic engagement Institutional, organizational, and/or workplace communication Ethical making of meaning and rhetorical knowledge about issues that matter to the rhetor Learning from and contributing to the rhetorical life of the city, state, and/or region

Information Literacies: Students will be able to locate, evaluate, and use sources (academic and non-academic) rhetorically, demonstrating capacities: Read critically Listen rhetorically Put multiple perspectives into conversation Engage critically with information across changing rhetorical technologies
