Program Description

The Medical Laboratory Science minor provides students, especially those planning to attend professional schools and graduate programs in health sciences, with a working knowledge of the diagnostic tests performed in a modern clinical laboratory. Students will learn how to critically evaluate results from these analyses and explore how the results are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disease.

Completion of the minor does not satisfy the eligibility requirements for certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Program Admissions Requirements

Students applying for admission to the minor must be in good standing with their home department and with the University, as evidenced by a current degree audit report. They must have and maintain a cumulative University of Utah earned grade point average (as listed on the degree audit) of at least a 2.5. Students apply for admission to the minor by submitting a completed application form to the MLS division office.
