Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental ideas about the production, use and interpretation of visual art across a range of historical periods and cultural and geographical contexts;
Demonstrate an understanding of major concepts, theories and approaches to research and interpretation in the study of art and visual culture;
Be able to identify, analyze, and assess information and arguments from a variety of sources and perspectives;
Be able to formulate an argument and express that argument clearly and cogently in both oral and written communication;
Have sufficient ability in a foreign language to enhance their knowledge of the visual art and culture of nations or people outside the English-speaking nations;
Be prepared for entry level positions in the public, private, or nonprofit sectors, or for undertaking advanced graduate study in an academic or professional program;
Possess the research and communication skills necessary to participate in the world of art, art history and visual studies;
Be prepared for more advanced scholarship in art history and visual studies at the Doctoral level;
Have developed a specific scholarly focus and increased expertise in a historical period, genre, or critical method of art history.
