Program Graduation Requirements
Coursework must be taken for a minimum letter grade of “B-.” Credit/no credit is not an option for art history courses.
Graduate students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in coursework in the Art History MA degree program.
To continue active status, students must enroll for at least three credit hours each fall and spring semester until all degree requirements are completed.

Simple Requirements
The Art History MA is comprised of 30 semester credit hours composed of core coursework, area/period directed studies, and project or thesis research.
All coursework must be pre-approved by the Director of Graduate Studies and the Program of Study must be approved by the Supervisory Committee.
should be taken in the Fall semester of the first year, unless waived by the Director of Graduate Studies.
from the following types of courses:
Graduate-level coursework in art history or related disciplines.
All coursework used to fulfill the MA degree requirement must be numbered at the 5000-level and above.
for students who have successfully passed the qualifying exam and been admitted to candidacy.
Verification of standard proficiency in a foreign language approved by the Supervisory Committee of the Program in Art History and Visual Studies. Any class in foreign language instruction does not count toward the MA degree minimum 30 credit hour requirement.
Passing score on a written qualifying paper.
Successful oral defense of a project or thesis approved by the Supervisory Committee of the Program in Art History and Visual Studies.
