An emphasis is required for the program:
Students may earn two emphases:
Students may use any First Experiences (FE) course to fulfill this requirement, but the listed course is highly recommended.
Complete 3 credits through a relevant study abroad program, internship, research course, community engaged learning course, or an honors thesis. The selection must be pre-approved by an advisor.
All requirements should be fulfilled with the same Asian/Pacific Language. Includes Chinese, Hindi-Urdu, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Samoan, Tongan, or Vietnamese. Students must complete 1010, 1020, 2010, and 2020.
NOTE: Advanced language learning—especially in less-commonly taught languages and in languages with unfamiliar scripts—can pose significant challenges to degree completion and can be less critical than methods training for certain career tracks open to graduates of our programs. For these reasons, an advanced methods option is offered as an alternative to continued language training.

For these reasons, an advanced methods option is offered through the Bachelor of Science degree in this major emphasis as an alternative to language training.
